With new inventions such as air raids Civillian life became dramatically changed no longer was it easy to differ soldier from civillian in the battlefield instead bombs were dropped machine guns were fired at everything that moved. Along with this brought many shortages of resources such as food, metal etc because it was all being used on the front lines for making new weapons or feeding the soldiers. WWI devastated civillian life just as much as it did those soldiers ho fought in it

New Weaponry

There were many new weapons used in the First World War such as bayonets,rifles and machine guns. Bayonets were sharp edges added to the gun for close battle and machine guns were new rapid fire technology. Other weapons such as grenades, tanks poison gas etc also became available

Battle Of Liege

This was the first battle of the war and it was called a victory for the Allies as they successfully fended off the German Army. The Germans were attacking Belgium in order to reach France however with Belgiums unexpected defense it allowed the French time to organize and defend Paris.

Battle Of Frontiers

This battle was between the French and the German as France attempted to recapture France’s lost land from the Franco-Prussian war. This battle was made up of many simultaneous battles.

With the new war strategy of digging trenches and hiding in them neither side were able to gain any ground. Other armies being entrenched made it virtually impossible to mount any attack along with the barbed wire that held out opposing armies
