World War I otherwise known as The Great War was a global war centered in Europe that began on 28 July 1914 and lasted until 11 November 1918.This war shaped the events of the 20th century and greatly changed the art of warfare. For the first time in history war was not fought out in the open and aircraft played a major role.Such causes as militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism all led many European powers to war. However it was not solely Europe as the United States and Japan entered the battle . After many years of war they would eventually sign peace treaties and Europe would become more divided then ever setting the stage for another major conflict in the years to come.
